ASTRA Member Spotlight: Stacy Lellos, Klutz

The ASTRA community is made up of a vibrant group of retailers, sales representatives, manufacturers and affiliate members who all have unique stories of how they got into the toy industry. We believe these stories are worth sharing! To recognize our community, the ASTRA Blog features a regular ASTRA Member Spotlight series.

What do you enjoy about being in the toy business?
It’s so much fun!  Every single day my entire staff is laughing and creating wonderful things in the office. You’ll often find kid testers running around the office, too, and trying out our products. There is something so gratifying about coming to work and reading the fan mail we receive from kids around the world who love KLUTZ. There’s simply no better feeling than watching a child’s eyes light up when you bring them a KLUTZ kit and they get started creating right away.

PrintWhat has been your proudest moment as a member of the specialty toy industry?
My proudest moment as a member of the specialty toy industry was this summer when I had the opportunity to meet so many of our specialty retailers at the ASTRA Marketplace & Academy. I love being able to connect with our customers and get their feedback. It makes me proud to hear how much our retailers and their customers are enjoying our newest products and how eager they are to see our upcoming projects.

Editorial side note: Klutz’s Sew Mini Treats won a 2016 Best Toys for Kids award in the category Creative Arts Play 8+.

What has been your biggest challenge in this business?
Our biggest challenge is finding the best ways to convey to our customers all the excitement we have for each of our products. We are proud to provide very detailed instructions and all the materials kids need to get started, while also giving them options so that they can explore their creativity however they’d like. When we create something new, it can be challenging to visually showcase all the incredible things that come in the package, and how simple and easy it is to get started. This is why our specialty retailers are so important to us. They know our products and are our voice when talking to their customers.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that quite often, while my team is diligently working on the next set of amazing activity kits, I will come out of my office to dance! It usually results in a burst of laughter and sometimes a dance party.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Stacy!
